Top Ten Tuesday is original feature/weekly meme that was created at The Broke and The Bookish.
It’s hard to do a top ten for this topic, because everyday I discover a another book that’s releasing in 2016 and sounds amazing! But these titles are ones I’ve recently discovered that have stuck out to me because of its plot or cover or genre. The titles are listed in no particular order, though. Click on the title to link to it’s Goodreads page. Enjoy!
This book is described as a ‘wild west urban fantasy’ novel, a combination that I have never read before. In the words of Goodreads, it’s about an orphan girl who must prove that the wealthy new family in town are the cannibals who killed her family years ago. Interesting, right? Also, the main character Westie sounds tough and badass – and she has a powerful mechanical arm.
The setup for this book seems similar to Throne of Glass as it’s about a king who holds these ancient magical duels to decide who will become the Imperial Enchanter and his most trusted advisor – but in a Russian setting. I love the Throne of Glass series, so I’m excited for this one too! It has fantasy and magic and romance and is set in Imperial Russia, so what’s not to love?
As someone who often also wishes her life was like something out of a YA fantasy novel, the title and blurb for Bookishly Ever After had me hooked immediately. It seems like a cute contemporary romance – and its coming out in January, so its not too long of a wait!
Superstitions. Old traditions. A missing girl. I found the cover really eerie and it’s what caught my attention first. This is categorized as mystery/thriller/horror – and I’ve not read much of this genre, so I’m looking forward to this one.
The Heir and The Spare’ was inspired by the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton! Can’t wait to read it.
“Rhea, Cadis, Suki, and Iren have lived together since they were children. They are called sisters. They are not. They are called equals. They are not. They are princesses…and they are enemies.” Need I say more?
‘Sixteen-year-old Nix has sailed across the globe and through centuries aboard her time-traveling father’s ship. But when he gambles with her very existence, it all may be about to end.’ This one looks so interesting. It has time travelling pirate ship – and romance!
This one’s involves time travel as well, but I couldn’t help but include it! This one blends fantasy and historical fiction and has been described as ‘Outlander’ for teens. Sixteen year old Hope gets trapped in the twelfth century after finding out that her mother was part of secret society of time travellers, and seventy-two hours to get back to her own time. Sadly, it’s only coming out in March!
“In this honest and affecting tale of friendship and first love, Emily Martin brings to vivid life the trials and struggles of high school and the ability to learn from past mistakes over the course of one steamy North Carolina summer.”
From what I got of the author’s website, Underwater is about ‘seventeen-year-old Morgan Grant who struggles with agoraphobia after a tragic incident at her high school’. It seems like a heart breaking yet ultimately heart warming and uplifting story.
So those are my top ten 2016 debuts list. What do you think? Were any of these on your list too? Let me know and have a lovely Tuesday!
